Learn about the best web archiving software tools and services that can help you save any web page. As well as how to copy a page of a site.
Web pages change over time, they may even disappear. Therefore, if you want to save the web page forever, you need to download it to your computer (and download it to Dropbox) or use the web archiving service, which will store a copy of this page on its servers for free.
There are many ways to save web pages forever, and the choice of tool will depend on the type of content that you want to save to the archive:
Permanent Web Archives
If you want to save text content, then Pocket and Instapaper are recommended for these purposes. You can save pages via email, browser extensions, or through applications. These services extract text content from web pages and make it available on all your devices. But you cannot download saved articles, but only read them on the Pocket website or through the service’s mobile application. Further we will tell you how to completely copy the page of the site.
Evernote and OneNote are tools for archiving content into collections. They provide users with web clippers (or extensions) that make it easy to save complete web pages in one click.
Captured web pages can be accessed from any device, the original design and the ability to search the page are preserved. These services can even perform optical recognition to find text in photos. Evernote also allows you to export saved pages as HTML files that can be downloaded elsewhere.
If you need quick and easy access to web pages, then save them as PDF files. Before you copy a page of a site as a picture, select the right tool.
Google Chrome has a built-in PDF converter. You can also use Google Cloud Print. A new “Save to Google Drive” virtual printer has been added to the service. The next time you print a page on a computer or mobile device via Cloud Print, you can save a PDF copy of it to Google Drive. But this is not the best option for saving pages with complex formatting.
When it is important to keep the design, it is best to use a screenshot. The selection of such programs is quite large, but I would recommend the official Chrome add-on from Google. It not only captures full screenshots of web pages, but also uploads the resulting image to Google Drive. The add-on can save web pages in web archive format (MHT), which is supported in IE and Firefox.
The Wayback Machine on the Internet Archive is the perfect place to search for previous versions of a web page. But the same tool can be used to copy a page of a site and save it. Go to archive.org/web and enter the URL of any webpage. The archiver downloads a full copy of it to the server, including all images. The service will create a permanent page archive that looks the same as the original. It will remain on the server, even if the original page has been taken offline.
Internet Archive does not provide the ability to download saved pages, but you can use Archive. Is for this. This service is very similar to archive.org in that you enter the URL of the page and it creates an exact snapshot of it on your server. The page will be saved forever, but here it is possible to load the saved page as a ZIP archive. The service also allows you to create archives by date. Thanks to which you can get several pictures of the same page for different dates.
Now we’ll figure out how to completely copy a page on an electronic reader. EReader owners can use dotEPUB to download any web page in EPUB or MOBI format. These formats are compatible with most e-book models. Amazon also offers an add-on with which you can save any web page on your Kindle device, but this tool is mainly intended for archiving text content.
Most of these tools allow you to load a single page, but if you want to keep a set of URLs, the solution may be Wget. There is also a Google Script for automatically loading web pages into Google Drive, but only HTML content can be saved in this way.

Saving a web page in word
This method is perhaps the easiest. To do this, you need to have a Word text editor from Microsoft. Select an article or its fragment, copy by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C, open Word and use the keys Ctrl + V to paste into the Word document. If you need to select not the entire text of the page, but only a few paragraphs in different places of the web page, then use the simple technique that we described in this article.
Then do not forget to save (Ctrl + S) to the right place: to an external drive, flash drive, or to a mobile device.
How to save a web page in html
This method of saving a web page allows you to save data in an html file. This is very convenient: a file with a similar format will open any browser. As an example, we will consider the process of saving the main page of our site. In order to save the selected page, right-click on it and select "Save as…»
An Explorer window will open in front of you, in which you specify in which folder the web page will be saved. In the example, we simply create the “saved sites»
Next we indicate file name pages. By default, the page title is substituted, but you can specify your own file name.
File type. Here you choose the type that you need. Consider their differences. When choosing type "Full web page»Not only the web page will be saved, but also all images, scripts, styles. All of them will be stored in a separate folder of the same name.
In this case, when opening the ABC-Internet.html file, all styles, images and scripts will be loaded from this folder. This is convenient when you do not have internet access.
If you choose type "web page, HTML only ", then when you open such a file, all data (images, styles) will be downloaded from the Internet. In the absence of the Internet, your screen will simply not have formatted text. Therefore, you need to save the file in this type when you know that you will have a connection to the World Wide Web.

With the help of specials. extensions
For most popular browsers, there are now a bunch of various add-ons and extensions that allow you to save your favorite pages both in cloud storage and in PDF files on your hard drive.
I would like to highlight one very interesting addition - PDF MAGE.
A small addition for Firefox, Opera, Chrome, allowing you to save the web page completely to your hard drive in 1 click!
I note that after clicking on the PDF Mage icon, the current page is simply downloaded in PDF format to your download folder. It’s just impossible to come up with a more convenient way.
I will show you an example.
After installing the extension in the menu you will have a small icon. Once you find an interesting page, just left-click on it.
This is how the PDF Mage icon looks in the panel in Chrome
Next you will see a message that the page has started saving. Now you can generally switch to another tab from being about it.

Literally in an instant, the browser itself will automatically start downloading the PDF file. Actually, everything is done without unnecessary gestures, quickly and conveniently!
In general, I recommend to use!
Using online services
The network also has many Internet services that allow you to quickly save any page on the network in PDF. The essence of the work is approximately the following: you insert into the spec. string URL of the page you want to save.
Next, press the button to generate a PDF file. After a while, you get a link to download your PDF. Of course, you can use it, but in my humble opinion - all this is tiring and suitable for temporary use. For example, you have a “problem” with a browser or Windows, you get some kind of “strange” page that does not want to be saved in the previous ways.
And so, the most popular of services of this kind:
